We did this hike on 04/07/2025 (11,823 steps).
Normally, this hiking route starts in Orscholz; we parked and set off from the spacious, free parking area by the Saar. It is a magnificent hike with a steep climb to the Cloef viewpoint, after which you descend again to the banks of the Saar. This meander in the river is said to be one of the most beautiful in Germany.
Along the way, you regularly get stunning views of the Saar valley. The descent takes you through the picturesque valley of the Steinbach. Besides this hiking route, there are several other routes of varying lengths.
You can also walk the Tree Top Path Saarschleife, which is approximately 1.25 km long, for a fee. With the Welles ferry, you can cross the Saar. The crossing is included in the Saarschleife Tafeltour.
