The Castle of Verdú is one of the most emblematic buildings of the village, and it was around it that the streets and squares that now make up the town of Verdú in the province of Lleida began to be built.
In the year 1055, these territories were conquered by Ramón Berenguer I, and in 1072 they passed to the family of Arnau Company. For two hundred years they were in the hands of Arnau. Until the year 1184, Berenguela de Cervera granted the inhabitants of Verdú the privilege of constructing the town around the castle, which until then had been located around the Cercavins river, a tributary of the Ondara river.
