The primitive monastery and church of San Agustín, which appears on the map of Torriani from 1588 , were built near the old lagoon to guarantee the water supply.
The church, the tower and the entrance were built on their current site in the 18th century.
The fire of June 2, 1964 destroyed the church and with it a first-class historical-artistic heritage : statues such as those of the group that formed the Virgen de la Cinta, San Agustín and Santa Mónica, or the Christ of Burgos
