Cap de Sant Antoni Lighthouse - Denia

The lighthouse stands on the edge of a breathtaking, sheer limestone cliff that juts out dozens of meters above the Mediterranean Sea. The tower itself is modest in size (about 17 meters high), but because it stands atop the sheer limestone cliff, the light is located at no less than approximately 175 meters above sea level . As a result, the beacon is visible far out at sea.

It was opened in the mid-19th century (1855) to secure the dangerous shipping route between Valencia and the Balearic Islands . Before the arrival of the modern lighthouse, the cape had served as a landmark for sailors for centuries. Sailors and coastal residents had used simple fire signals or oil lamps at this location for centuries to mark the dangerous cliffs and shallows in the bay. The arrival of the stone lighthouse in 1855 was a huge technological step forward for safety on the shipping route.

In addition to the tower itself, the complex consists of the historic lighthouse keeper's residence.
