Renoir Essoyes trail

Essoyes was the birthplace of Renoir's wife, and one of his favorite painting spots.

The village is completely dedicated to the painter and has developed a route with sights and some reproductions . We largely follow this route, but deviate briefly to include the beautiful viewpoint on the Ource on our journey.

Start at the Place de la Mairie where a little further on is the Espace culturel Renoir that is worth a visit. The view of the passerelle over the Ource and the lavoir are a painting in themselves, as is the quai des artistes . A little further we come to a first reproduction, " Dance a la campaign" and further we descend to a beautiful view of some half-timbered houses on l'Ource.

A little further we cross the Ource for a second reproduction, "Les laveuses". We retrace our steps and arrive at Renoir's studio and garden, which can be visited. A little further on in the cemetery is the tomb of the Renoir family. We pass another reproduction, "La route de Loches".

A little further away is the Maison Renoir and a reproduction of "Jugement de Paris". Just in front of the Saint-Remy church is "La belle Gabrielle" . The church itself has interesting stained glass windows and a special organ.

We are now back at the parking lot, but we will still walk to Château Hériot with its special well.
