The route starts from the parking lot of Park Molenwijk in Boxtel (easily accessible via the Boxtel-North exit on the A2). 44% of the route is unpaved, the unpaved roads are mostly gravel roads and gravel (bike) paths. Occasionally, you cycle over a forest road and over unpaved roads that have more sand than gravel (see below in the list of gravel sections).

The area you are cycling in is a mix of agricultural land and cultural landscape with beautiful farms, nature reserves (Kampina, Vughtse Hoeven, Sparrenrijk, Eikenhorst, Halse Barrier, Hooge Heide, Eikenburg, Het Vinkel, Engelenstede, Heeswijkse Bossen, Zegenwerp, and Venrode) and stream valleys (the catchment area of the streams Kleine Aa, Essche Stroom, Rosep, Aa, Grote Wetering, Dommel, and Leijgraaf). This means that you will cycle alongside some of these streams several times and cross some of them via bridges. You will also cycle past two castles (Castle Nemerlaer near Haaren and Castle Heeswijk near Heeswijk-Dinther).

Relatively often, unpaved roads are narrow gravel bike paths (along sandy roads or freely located), and these gravel bike paths are often concentrated in and around nature reserves. Be aware of possible oncoming traffic on these narrow paths! The connection between nature reserves mostly goes over asphalt roads, with a distance of at most five kilometers (usually 3 to 4 km) needing to be bridged to cycle to the next area with gravel sections. Some villages need to be traversed along the way (you cycle through Esch, Berlicum, Den Dungen, and Sint-Michielsgestel). Around Den Dungen, you cycle over gravel paths on dikes where you pass some wheels (scour holes). All in all, a very varied gravel route in terms of landscapes and gravel roads.
