On this walk, the focus is on the place where the powerful Van Ewsum family once lived. The castle of the same name was built in the early Middle Ages and demolished in the mid-19th century. What remains is the donjon from 1472, along with a memorial stone from the same period, which commemorates the struggle between the city and the surrounding area. The preserved castle grounds, which have been redesigned and landscaped, are worth a stroll. Be sure to visit the tea room and the exhibition space. The walk around the castle grounds and through part of the village is 3 kilometers. The longer route through the Wierden village of Toornwerd is about 5 kilometers.
