Bergen - Boxmeer: Eating and Cycling

Culinary bites and steps in the Maasheggen and the Maasduinen.
The route begins at the Kunsthaus De Bakkerij in Bergen aan de Maas. The characteristic riverside village of Bergen is situated on a high sand dune at the edge of the De Maasduinen National Park. You will be welcomed in the former village bakery of Bergen. In the listed bakery house, changing exhibitions of contemporary art take place. The nostalgic oven from 1933 is already a work of art in itself. As a visitor to the gallery, you can choose between a delicious Hayberries cake or an original cookie with coffee or tea. After registration and the handover of the route description, you will cross the Maas by ferry to Vierlingsbeek. You will cycle through the unique Maasheggen area along the banks of the Maas. The Maasheggen used to be found along all the floodplains of the Maas. At the border between Brabant and Limburg lies the last remnant of the protected Maasheggen. The hedges have already stood there for over 2000 years. In the Hotel Restaurant Riche in the center of Boxmeer, the appetizer is ready.
