June 6, 1944, D-Day. The long-awaited landing of the Allies on the coast of Normandy is a fact. In the Netherlands, the arrival of the liberators is awaited with bated breath. Because of the approach from the south, American soldiers were the first to set foot on Dutch soil in Eijsden-Margraten. There is still a lot to see and hear from this turbulent time. So much that you better take the bike!

Liberation of the Plateau is one of the three wo cycling routes with the common theme Cycling to freedom. During this route you cycle past various war sights on the plateau of Margraten.

You will discover, among other things, the American Cemetery and the listening stone 'municipality of Eijsden-Margraten'. More information about these and the two other loops (Liberation of the Hill Country & Liberation of the Meuse Valley) can be found here .

With the perfectly signposted junction system, navigation is almost automatic. You can start at junction 70 (parking on the Amerikaplein in Margraten).
