Abbediet i Nivelles i Wallonien-Brabant blev grundlagt i 640 af Sankt Amandus og Itta eller Ida fra Nivelles, enke efter Pepin af Landen og hendes datter Gertrudis fra Nivelles, den første abbedisse. Denne stiftelse havde også som mål at bevare de familiære ejendomme og konsolidere begge kvinders magtposition. Også efter deres død forblev klosteret i hænderne på Pepiniderne. Abbediet var oprindeligt et dobbeltkloster. Det er sikkert, at det fra 877 var en kvinderstift.
