Goldbach-Altenbach [gɔltbax altənbax] is a French municipality located in the Haut-Rhin administrative district and, since January 1, 2021, in the territory of the European Collectivity of Alsace, in the Grand Est region.
The municipality, which is situated on a rocky spur, was born from the merger in 1972 of two of the highest municipalities in Alsace, Goldbach and Altenbach. The village lies at the foot of the ruins of the Freundstein castle mentioned as early as 1297, and on the other side by chalets dominated by several peaks of the Vosges mountains over which the Ballon de Guebwiller or Grand Ballon and the Vieil Armand hover. Goldbach-Altenbach is close to Geishouse. The village is part of the Saint-Amarin canton and the Thann arrondissement. From 1795 to 1802, the village of Goldbach-Altenbach was part of the Thann canton. The village is situated at an altitude of 695 meters.
