This bust of Luis Álvarez Cruz was made by the artist Enrique Cejas Zald var (1915-1986).
Luís Álvarez Cruz (San Cristóbal de La Laguna, 1904-1971) was connected to the literary environment of his native city from an early age. He regularly attended the meetings of the poet Manuel Verdugo, where he stood out for his regionalist, modernist and lyrical style.
After living for some time in Madrid, he lived permanently in his native city, where he was president of the Ateneo and the Orfeón La Paz, and a member of the Instituto de Estudios Canarios.
He worked as a journalist in the newspapers of Tenerife (1925-1936), was a correspondent for the press, radio and television and wrote thousands of articles, interviews, reports, chronicles, etc. The most remarkable of his journalistic work can be found in his book : Luis Álvarez Cruz, cien años de un periodista (Luis Álvarez Cruz, a hundred years of journalist ).
He won about thirty prizes , including the First Prize of the Spanish Savings Banks and the Golden Eglantine of the Barcelona Floral Games.
