Moormerland is a unified municipality composed of originally ten independent villages in the district of Leer in East Friesland. It is a relatively densely populated rural municipality in both the inner East Frisian and Lower Saxon context, densest in the southeast of its area, near the district town of Leer. Moormerland has 23,987 inhabitants and is the second largest municipality in the district after the district town, and the fifth largest municipality in East Friesland after Emden, Aurich, Leer, and Norden – ahead of the cities of Wittmund, Weener, and Wiesmoor. The seat of the municipal administration is Warsingsfehn.
