Bishorst

Bishorst is a village that sank during a severe storm surge in the Elbe in the 18th century, located in today's district of Pinneberg in Schleswig-Holstein.

It is believed that a church existed in Bishorst as early as the 9th century. Later, the village developed into a parish and the spiritual center of the Haseldorfer Marsh. Around 1125, the missionary apostle Vicelin was gifted Bishorst. However, the name is first documented in 1142 in the donation certificate of Archbishop Adalbero of Bremen to Vicelin. When the Slavs plagued Holstenland in the 12th century, Vicelin and his associates withdrew to the protected mission village. Later, the church was incorporated into the Bordesholm Monastery.
