Lavoir de Maxey sur Vaise

In Maxey sur Vaise, there are two laundries. The first one built near the springs of the Vaise is with movable floors, it is one of the showcases of the know-how of the Tusey foundries in Vaucouleurs. Indeed, three movable floors are operated by a rack and pinion-crank system supported by two elegant fluted cast iron columns with double Corinthian capitals. This very ingenious system allowed the height of the floors to be adjusted according to the water level. Along the Vaise river which runs through the village, a second winnowing wash-house can be seen at the exit of the village.
