The regulation of the water level in the New Dutch Waterline sometimes required the use of steam or engine pumping stations. Pumping stations have been built for this purpose in several places: sometimes to raise the water level, but also to be able to lower it, especially after any inundations have ended. The inundation system for the New Dutch Waterline at the Meerdijk consists of the De Oude Horn pumping station with an inlet and retaining lock.
The former polder pumping station De Oude Horn was put into operation in 1859 as a steam pumping station. The main shape of the pumping station is largely in its original state, but the machinery that powered the pumping station has disappeared. The building has been used as a glassworks since 1978 and has recently been restored.
