The Liermolen is a grain water mill. Originally, it was owned by the de Lire family. In 1341, it was purchased by the Abbey of Grimbergen, which remained the owner until the French confiscated it and sold it publicly. The mill was inhabited until 1971 and was then acquired by the municipality. The current mill building dates from the 17th and 18th centuries. The mill was thoroughly restored in 1977. The milling equipment, which was largely preserved, was then also restored and supplemented, making the mill operational again. The bakehouse was restored in 1987. Both are now ready for use and are now utilized by the Museum in the context of grain cultivation, grain milling (mill house), and bread baking (bakehouse). The former cow shed has been converted into a cafeteria. The mill site currently includes: a partially walled manure pit, the miller’s house and the mill house with an adjoining stable, the barn, and the horse and pig stables. The bakehouse is located in the adjoining meadow.
