The Sacred Heart Church is the parish church of Winterslag, located at Evence Coppéeplaats 2, and one of the so-called mine cathedrals, built on the orders of the owners of the Winterslag coal mine. Unlike the other mine cathedrals in Belgian Limburg, this one is not made of brick but constructed from rubble stone. The cruciform church is built in eclectic style with neo-Romanesque elements according to a design by Adrien Blomme. It was built from 1923-1925. The low, square tower is integrated into the facade and is topped by a helmet-shaped spire. Notable are the buttresses and the crossing tower. In 2020, the church reopened after a thorough renovation of 8 months, the entire interior was updated, and the church also received new furnishings. The new altar was made from the wood of the old pews.
