The Haacht anti-tank ditch was built in 1939 and was part of the KW line: the main resistance position Koningshooikt-Waver with extension to Namur. It was the backbone of the Belgian defensive system in the 1930s. In 1939, the construction of the Anti-Tank Ditch provided a cross-section of the castle site of Roost.
After the Second World War, nature took over completely. In 2001 this spot was recognized as a nature reserve "Haachts Broek-Antitankgracht". There are rare species, such as the great crested newt. In this way, heritage and nature come together.
Since 2006 there has been a cooperation agreement between the municipality of Haacht, HAGOK and Natuurpunt Haacht. Together with the Flemish Land Agency, various measures were implemented to improve the heritage and nature value.
From 2009 to 2016, works were carried out, such as silt and dump clearance, the establishment of a reception site, the development of a new walking route, the construction of pools for the great crested newt, the establishment of a starting point near the Oude Hansbrug and the construction of a neighbourhood park 'Heerlyckheid van Roost' source: www.haacht.be
