The Lunéville Synagogue was the first to be built in France since the Middle Ages, "by permission of King Louis XVI", between 1785 and 1786. The synagogue was listed as a historic monument in 1980.
The synagogue's façade is in keeping with the architectural tradition of Lorraine. Covered with a veneer of Vosges pink sandstone, it testified to the integration of the Jewish community in Lunéville before it was hammered out during the Revolution. Several symbols sculpted on the frieze separating the first and second levels show the Jewish community's gratitude to King Louis XVI.
On the second level, the opulent garland of vine branches and the partly hammered crown symbolize the Jewish people and the Law handed down by God to Moses.
On the side, a small door was reserved for children, so that they could leave the synagogue without disrupting the service
The building is open during worship hours.
