Short but beautiful walk through the Landscape De Liereman. The walk goes along the echelkuil, where echels (leeches) used to be grown for medical use. The breeder used horses to harvest the echels. He put on these animals' boots and tied them to a pole in the pond. The leeches sucked on the legs and fell into the boots when satisfied. This allowed him to harvest them, after which he sold them to pharmacists and French hospitals. On the other side of the pond we see the hunting lodge of the domain 'Echelkuil'.

The walk can be started from the parking lot at the Sint-Bavokerk or at the visitor center De Liereman, where you can taste the regional beer 'Gageleer'. Highly recommended for the beer taster.

In case of extreme drought, it is recommended to consult the news. The De Liereman landscape is then completely closed off. The visitor center will remain open.
