The route starts in Gulpen at the Mosaqua pool and goes clockwise.
First, the route crosses the Netherlands around the Gulperberg via the Oude Akerweg. Via Partij and Mechelen, you go up to Hilleshagen, then you cross the hamlets of Melleschet and Rott. You go down the Kleebergerweg and climb via the hamlet of Bommerig to the foot of the Camerig, the most difficult climb in the Netherlands (quite steep at the beginning, and long (length: 4.7 km)).
You descend through the Rugweg to Vijlen and then to Vaalserbroek. This is followed by the second long climb on this route (length: 3.5 km) to the Drielandenpunt (Vaalserberg). After about 25 km, you leave the Netherlands and you already have just over half the number of altimeters. This means that the second part of the route is easier than the first.
The route enters Belgium by the beautiful descent on the Belgian side of the Drielandenpunt. Via the RAVeL 39 (a paved cycle path above an old railway track, watch out for the fences at level crossings and leaving the RAVeL!), you pedal to the foot of the climb of the rue de Terstraeten. After this short climb follows a descent of almost 2 kilometers long by a clear road, followed by the ascent to Hombourg by the Pays de Herve via the Rue de Sippenaeken. After a short descent to Homburg, take the asphalt bike path above RAVeL 38: it's also climbing, but as it was an old railway line it's never steeper than 3%. Incidentally, the RAVeL are lined with shrubs and trees, so here you only have a very sporadic view of the surroundings. The RAVeL 38 takes you to Aubel.
The climbs that follow are a little more difficult than the previous ones in the Belgian part of the route. First of all, it is the Rue Château de Magis d'Aubel, with beautiful views in the second part of the climb.
This is followed by a 4 km long descent on good roads and, in Sint Martens-Voeren, follows the ascent of the Ulvend (also known as Op den Eiken). Then you get off to Leuven and go up the Gieveld.
Then you cycle back to the Netherlands, but there are no more climbs because you stay on a plateau. Finally, you descend the King of Spain to return to the starting point of the route.
