The Cévennes National Park is a French National Park, which was created on 2 September 1970 and covers the natural region of the Cévennes and is mainly located in the departments of Lozère, Gard and Ardèche. It therefore covers two regions: Occitania and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. The seat is in the Florac castle.
The national park of the Cévennes has different peculiarities that distinguish it from other French national parks: it is the only one in the low mountain range and the only metropolis whose heart is inhabited and exploited by permanent residents (agriculture and hunting). It is therefore classified as a category V3 protected area by the World Commission for Protected Areas of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, while the other national parks are classified in category II.
The park has also been recognized as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO since 1985.
