Ontdek alle voordelenYou are exploring the Yser basin in its area closest to Belgium. The gently rolling terrain and length are suitable for occasional cyclists. However, remain cautious along the RD 947, a road with heavy traffic. You are cycling in the splendid Yser valley! Immerse yourself in the discreet charm of this rural area that will reveal itself to you throughout your hike. Let yourself be captivated by a rich built heritage, a faithful witness to Flemish architecture and the countless curiosities that will enchant your way.
Here, your route will cross, among others, two heritage villages®, which you absolutely must not miss!
In Herzeele, houses with red bricks, glazed black tiles, and yellow, green, or blue shutters reflect the colorful spirit of Flanders. And the highlight of a visit to Herzeele is undoubtedly the organ café. This surprising place, with an extraordinary atmosphere, has three enormous mechanical organs by Mortier. Every Sunday, the magnificent limonaires, sculpted and colorful, lead the dance! In Houtkerque, where you won't forget to admire the chapels and oratories lining the streets and paths, you will follow the traces of fraudsters and smugglers who, despite the removal of customs checks, still exist. The former customs barracks, legends, and the Night of the Fraudsters perpetuate the memory of this tumultuous past.
