VIRGOLA
We are near the monument dedicated to Eraldo Fico, code name “Virgola”, an Italian worker who during World War II distinguished himself as a partisan after fighting as an alpine soldier on the Western Front and then in the Greek campaign. Due to his audacity, he became an organizer and commander of the Garibaldina Division “Coduri”. After the Italian liberation, the United States recognized his achievements by awarding him the “Bronze Star”, an important military honor. About 7 meters high, the monument consists of a square pyramid made of grey sandstone, similar to the Ligurian cliffs. Embedded in the front edge is the bronze bust of the partisan, set in a concavity that seems to have been formed by his collision with the memorial. A裂开 slashes through the monument symbolizing the crumbling of the pyramidal power that the partisans opposed. From the fissure, lined internally with pink mosaic, flows the water from a new spring, emblematic of rebirth.
