Dinkelsteen XIV
During the LAGA-2003, 13 sandstone sculptures were placed along the River Dinkel through an art project initiated by Anke Engels, so-called Dinkelstenen (Dinkelsteine). These stones are placed along a 13 kilometer route between Epe and Losser, always as close as possible to the river Dinkel. Later these were supplemented with 12 more Dinkel stones to Beuningen.
This is Dinkelsteen-XIV made by Paul Reinerink and is called The Surveyor.
It is a combination of uprights and wrought iron made of Gildehauser sandstone. This design was chosen due to the fact that in the immediate vicinity there were four so-called "insurance stones". In the past, these stones were used to establish national borders. There used to be two of these stones on both sides of the border. Due to a border correction, these four stones are currently on Dutch territory. This can be seen as an interesting cultural-historical aspect. With this work of art, the "Genius-Loci" or the own spirit of this place is emphasized.
