Westerholt Castle is a moated castle in the Westerholt district of Herten, Germany, on the edge of the Westerholt Forest. The complex, which is surrounded by moats, is still the ancestral seat of the Counts of Westerholt, who were first mentioned here in a document in 1193 and later called themselves "Westerholt zu Gysenberg". Together with Herten Castle, Westerholt Castle is one of the most important palace complexes in the former Vest Recklinghausen.
