The area around Müllerthal and Little Switzerland was called the land of wolves. Before 1879, the region was difficult to access, dangerous to humans, and it was said that the region resembled a jungle. However, this changed in 1814 with the prominent visit of Joseph von Görres from Koblenz. Joseph von Görres was not only director of school education for the province of Lower and Middle Rhine, to which Luxembourg also belonged at the time, but he was also a scientist for the newspaper "Rheinischer Merkur", which appeared in the same year. In addition, the Brussels journalist Victor Joly also wrote about Luxembourg "Les Ardennes" in his travel book.
These two mentions and descriptions have led to people from neighbouring countries getting to know Luxembourg and making them want to visit the region. The Luxembourg state then set up a better road and rail network. In 1873 there was a railway station in Grundhof and in 1877 the first loans were prepared for the construction of a road between Grundhof and the village of Müllerthal. The connection between the village of Mullerthal and Breitler was also completed in 1881. This way you could reach the village and the Schiessentümpel from both sides.
