La batalla de Berlín fue la última gran batalla en Europa durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Comenzó el 16 de abril de 1945 tras el inicio de una gran ofensiva de la Unión Soviética sobre la ciudad capital del Tercer Reich, y finalizó el 2 de mayo de 1945, cuando los defensores alemanes rindieron la ciudad al Ejército Rojo.
El 12 de enero de 1945, el Ejército Rojo entró en territorio alemán durante la ofensiva del Vístula-Óder y avanzó hacia el oeste a una gran velocidad, de hasta cuarenta kilómetros al día, internándose en Prusia Oriental, la Baja y Alta Silesia y Pomerania Oriental, hasta detenerse temporalmente a sesenta kilómetros al este de Berlín, en una línea defensiva alemana junto al río Oder. Cuando se reanudó la ofensiva, dos frentes soviéticos —grupos de ejércitos— atacaron Berlín desde posiciones al este y sur, mientras que un tercero atacó las posiciones alemanas al norte de la ciudad.
