L'histoire de la construction de cette église est longue et remonte au 13ème siècle. En 1370, le Comte Louis de Maele (Lodewijk van Maele) y fit construire la Chapelle des Comtes en tant que mausolée personnel et par dévotion envers Sainte Catherine. L'intérieur de l'église est de style baroque riche datant du 17ème siècle. L'église renferme quelques précieux trésors tels que la Mise en Croix d'Antoine Van Dyck.
