De jonge bomen die je hier ziet, werden eind 2012 - begin 2013 aangeplant. Deze wetenschappelijke site van 8 ha, die de FORBIO-site wordt genoemd, maakt deel uit van een internationaal experiment rond bomen en biodiversiteit. Vijf boomsoorten werden hier op verschillende manieren gemengd. Door deze verschillende combinaties op een wetenschappelijke manier op te volgen, wordt het belang van gevarieerde bossen onderzocht.
Dit project Bosland is onderdeel van het grootste ecosysteemexperiment ter wereld. Naast deze site werden recent gelijkaardige sites aangelegd in Zedelgem en Gedinne. Deze drie locaties vormen het Belgische luik van een wereldwijd netwerk van boomsoortenexperimenten dat momenteel wordt opgezet met onderzoeksites in Duitsland, Frankrijk, Finland, Borneo, Panama en China.
