De oude lakenhal werd in 1610-1611 in renaissancestijl gebouwd. In 1616 werd aan de achterkant van het gebouw een groot galerijenhof toegevoegd. Het geheel werd echter bijna volledig heropgebouwd tussen 1880 en 1888, en nadien hersteld na oorlogsbeschadigingen. De hoofdgevel in blauwe steen telt twee niveaus van elf traveeën die gescheiden worden door Toscaanse en Ionische zuilen. Op de gelijkvloerse verdieping wordt de centrale travee geflankeerd door vier spitsbogen die een opengewerkte galerij vormen.
