De eerste kerk na de Reformatie was een schuilkerk in de Frederikspolder, even buiten het dorp aan de tegenwoordige Oude Kerkweg. Op deze locatie was een schuilkerk die in 1742 in gebruik werd genomen. Dit gebouw werd in de 19e eeuw te klein, waarop besloten werd in het centrum van het dorp een nieuwe kerk te bouwen. Deze kerk was een ontwerp in neogotische stijl van architect Evert Margry. De nieuwe kerk werd in oktober 1877 in gebruik genomen. Lang heeft het gebouw niet bestaan, want in 1929 stortte bij een grote verzakking de westelijke zijbeuk in, waarna de hele kerk, op de toren na, moest worden afgebroken.
Op 4 augustus 1932 werd de huidige kerk geconsacreerd. Architect J.A. van der Laan ontwierp een grote zaalkerk, waarbij de toren van de oude kerk werd geïntegreerd. De kerk is tot op heden in gebruik bij de fusieparochie van de H. Franciscus.
