Hiptriptip

Trip-advice of the month

The route of this month is Fietserpad (Cyclepath). If not the most famous cyclingpath of the Netherlands, it's for sure one of the top routes.

The path goes from Pietersberg in Limburg to Pieterburen in Groningen (known for its seals). The whole route is 574 kilometer long, but you can do small parts. The author Nemook made the route for you in digital format.

And we also got some first activity in Japan and Russia on RouteYou.
We would like to put the beer-route group in the spotlight, because we noticed it became quite popular on our site (more than 1000 hits already). Check it out!

Faros

RouteYou-groups in the spotlight

The Gentlemen Bycicle Club SobrietaS made a great collection of cycle routes in France on RouteYou.

And this great group of French motorbikers from MC MOTOCSADN invite us all to join them on the 23th of september for a tour near Paris. Check your agenda!

The author Fluppe created some great motorbike routes, starting in the beautiful small village of Lissewege. The village has been selected as one of the top 15 most beautiful villages in Flanders.

Pytheas's Choice

Globespot of the month

Set-up

Every month, we ask somebody to be a modern Pytheas and tell us something about the most amazing place they have ever experienced, and explain why this is!

Globespot of the month: Poland, the Tatra Mountains, Mount Giewont (1894m)

The Pytheas of this month is Lies De Sutter from Velzeke, Belgium. She sent us her Pytheas spot of the month after her adventurous stay with the scouts of Zottegem.

Here is her story:

On july 15, the scouts of Zottegem were heading for Poland for two weeks. We stayed for three days in Krakau. Krakau is a very picturesque city, with a gorgeous old centre. After our visit to Krakau, we were heading for Zakopane, by train. Zakopane is located at the foothills of the Tatra Mountains, near the borders of Slowakia.

During one of the great hikes, we reached Mount Giewont (1894m). From the top, we had a great view on the mountain range and our camping, down in the valley.

On one side, you can see the civilised world, on the other side, pure nature. Reaching the top gave us great satisfaction: the victory after a great effort. Three days later, we reached Warschau by train after 9 hours. The center of Warschau is nice, but the suburbs are not that great. 4 days later, we were heading back for Belgium but we will never forget Poland.

The Giewont Mountain and the Tatra Mountainrange became our Pytheas spot!

Are you our next Pytheas of the Month? Tell us about the most amazing globe-spot you have ever experienced! Or alternatively, ask a friend who you think has a favourite globe-spot and would like to share it with the RouteYou community.

Nadar's Picture

Who is Nadar?

The selected picture of this month is from the group DSRV Laga

But we also wanted to show you this fine leg.

We noticed that another group gets particular extra attention. Some claim it is because of the great routes, others claim it's about the information which is given.

Gluring Turing

The Techy-spot

Set-up

Every month, we nominate a more technical item here which is linked to RouteYou activities, directly or indirectly. We have named this item in honor of Alan Turing.

Photosynth

Photosynth is a software from Microsoft. It allows you to create 3D models from pictures taken without callibrating the cameras in advance. A great piece of technology!

Together with the BBC, Microsoft-Photosynth made "Your Britain in Pictures". On the site, you can explore a nice set of top examples of architecture, located in the UK. You will have to install a small piece of software to be able to view the examples. Enjoy!
