Awans és un municipi belga de la província de Lieja a la regió valona.El 2009 tenia uns 8.758 habitants.Awans pertanyia a l'abadia de Chèvremont fins que al 31 de maig de 779, Carlemany el va obtenir en bescanviar-lo amb altres territoris i cedir-lo a l'abadia de Stavelot, una dació que Lluís I el Pietós va confirmar al 815. El seu fill, Lotari I va donar-lo a l'abadia de Prüm al 10 de juliol del 854. Segons un inventari de l'abadia, el 1222 Awans tenia 48 masos. Per la distància, l'abat va haver de nomenar un procurador laic encarregat de la gestió i de la justícia. El procurador va usurpar el títol de Senyor d'Awans, malgrat les protestes de l'abat de Prüm i dels seus successors.
