Una placa commemorativa recorda que l'11 de gener de 45, una patrulla de reconeixement blindada nord -americana de la 84a Divisió d'Infanteria es va reunir amb els escocesos de la 51a Divisió Highland des de Hotton des de les altures de Samree.
L'11 de gener, les primeres tropes del 4t Grup de Cavalleria baixen del Hez de Harzé a La Roche, que troben abandonada pels alemanys . Al mateix temps veuen els Highlanders venir de l' altra banda de l'Ourthe.
La Roche és alliberada però la batalla continua... els Highlanders alliberaran Hives, Hubermont, Mierchamps, Erneuville i Ortho.
L' encàrrec era arribar a Houffalize i connectar-se amb el 3r Exèrcit de Patton.
