Eine Gedenktafel erinnert daran, dass am 11. Januar 45 eine amerikanische Panzeraufklärungspatrouille der 84. Infanteriedivision die Schotten der 51. Highland Division von Hotton auf den Höhen von Samree traf.
Am 11. Januar steigen die ersten Truppen der 4. Kavalleriegruppe von der Hez de Harzé nach La Roche ab, das sie von den Deutschen verlassen vorfinden . Gleichzeitig sehen sie die Highlander von der anderen Seite der Ourthe kommen.
La Roche wird befreit , aber der Kampf geht weiter ... die Highlanders werden Hives, Hubermont, Mierchamps, Erneuville und Ortho befreien.
Die Aufgabe bestand darin, Houffalize zu erreichen und sich mit Pattons 3. Armee zu verbinden.
