Potsdam és una ciutat alemanya, capital del land de Brandenburg, amb 146.635 habitants . Situada a la perifèria sud-occidental de Berlín, a la riba del riu Havel (afluent dret de l'Elba, sobre l'illa Potsdamer Weder. Fou residència dels reis prussians, que hi construïren el Palau de Sanssouci, el Palau de Marbre, l'Orangerie o la Cecilienhof, on tingué lloc la Conferència de Potsdam el 1945.
Potsdam està situada al sud-oest de Berlín. L'àrea està formada per una sèrie de grans morrenes de l'últim període glacial. Actualment la ciutat té un 75% de zona verda, amb només un 25% cobert amb edificis o carrers. Hi ha al voltant de 20 llacs i rius, com per exemple els Havel, Griebnitzsee, Templiner Veu, Tiefer Veu, Jungfernsee, Teltowkanal, Heiliger Veu i el Sacrower Veu. El turó més alt és el amb 114 m.
