The church of Santa Maria in Canonica is a Catholic place of worship located in the historic center of Colle di Val d'Elsa, in the province of Siena, within the Archdiocese of Siena-Colle di Val d'Elsa-Montalcino.
Despite some hypotheses of significantly older origins, even Paleochristian, the church appears to be documented for the first time on November 27, 1183, when it was confirmed by Pope Lucius III to Mauro, abbot of the Abbey of Spugna; a certain Mercadante, a cleric of the abbey, was rector and chaplain on December 9, 1218.
