Talarn és una vila i municipi de la comarca del Pallars Jussà. La vila de Talarn és l'antiga capital de la comarca del Pallars Jussà, condició que perdé a favor de Tremp a l'edat mitjana tardana. El seu terme municipal és al centre, decantat cap a ponent, de la comarca, en el lloc més ben comunicat de tota ella. La vila, però, pel fet d'estar aturonada fora de les vies de comunicació, en queda una mica al marge, tot i que molt propera, tant de les vies de comunicació com de la mateixa Tremp.
