Sant Joan les Fonts és un municipi de la comarca de la Garrotxa, a les Comarques Gironines, sent el segon municipi més habitat de la comarca , i forma part del Parc Natural de la Zona Volcànica de la Garrotxa i del consorci de l'Alta Garrotxa. Fins a mitjans del segle xx, el municipi s'anomenava Begudà, ja que aquest poble del terme era la seu municipal. A més, entre 1936 i 1937, el municipi s'anomenà les Fonts de Begudà degut al context revolucionari contra l'hagiotoponímia. Sant Joan les Fonts es troba en el punt de confluència que uneix Girona amb Olot, Figueres i Camprodon. La indústria és el sector més desenvolupat en el municipi.
