Vidrà és un municipi de la comarca d'Osona però pertanyent a la província de Girona. Fins al 1989 aquest municipi pertanyia a la comarca del Ripollès. També forma part de la comarca natural d'El Bisaura.
La vall de Vidrà és esmentada el 960, quan Emma, abadessa de Sant Joan, féu consagrar la seva església, dedicada a sant Hilari.
