Les Piles és un municipi de la comarca de la Conca de Barberà. Es troba a la banda nord-est de la comarca. Molt accidentat, és drenat per nombrosos torrents i barrancs que van a parar al riu Gaià.
El terme fou conquerit als sarraïns a les acaballes del segle x. Es forma a redós del seu castell, actualment amb molts afegits i reformes. És un municipi on el turisme d'interior té especial importància gràcies a la casa de colònies i la residència-casa de pagès, al castell de Biure i als nombrosos monuments d'art romànic.
