Les coves del Cogul són un dels jaciments de pintures rupestres més destacats d'art rupestre llevantí, l'expressió artisticocreencial més extraordinària i singular de la prehistòria europea. S'estenia durant l'epipaleolític per tot el sector oriental de la península Ibèrica, i s'anomenà, per contraposició a les del nord, art llevantí. També té aquest fris rocallós mostres pictòriques dels primer agricultors: l'art esquemàtic ; les primeres d'aquesta expressió abstracta del món de les creences que es trobaren a Catalunya. L'indret, situat al Cogul, a les Garrigues, és anomenat Roca dels Moros, i consta el seu ús com a santuari o lloc màgic pels ibers i romans. Hi ha un centre d'interpretació i el conjunt està preparat per a la visita del públic.
