Hispània era el nom donat durant l'Imperi Romà a la península Ibèrica. Contenia les províncies Hispània Tarraconensis, Hispània Baetica i Lusitània, si bé en una primera divisió les dues últimes formaven una única província en contraposició a Hispània Citerior.
El nom Hispània apareix per primer cop el 200 aC i ve dels fenicis. Sembla que voldria dir "ocult" o "terra de conills" . La paraula fenícia i hebrea per conill era "tsapan" i la primera vocal s'eliminava al dialecte parlat al sud de la península, el que deixava de fet "span". A una medalla d'Adrià, Hispània és personificada en un conill.
