La península Ibèrica és una gran península del sud-oest d'Europa, entre els Pirineus i el nord d'Àfrica, entre el mar Mediterrani i l'oceà Atlàntic. Està separada del continent africà per l'Estret de Gibraltar, que comunica la Mediterrània i l'Atlàntic.Des del punt de vista latitudinal, la península Ibèrica està en latituds mitjanes: entre els 43° 47′ N de l'Estaca de Bares i els 36° 01′ N de Tarifa . El paral·lel 40 parteix per la meitat la Península, i es troba a una distància mitjana entre el pol Nord i la línia equatorial. Aquesta situació geogràfica té unes implicacions climàtiques importants com el predomini d'un clima temperat, amb dues estacions ben diferenciades i altres dues de transició . Tot i això existeix una forta diversitat climàtica.
