La presència d' arcs mudèjars a la torre i les característiques generals de l'edifici indiquen la possible existència d'una mesquita amb minaret com a predecessora de l'església actual, que podria haver estat reconstruïda al segle XVIII .
La característica més interessant d'aquesta església és l' esvelta torre, situada a la part posterior de la façana lateral.
La torre té una agulla piramidal de quatre vessants. Té una obertura a cada costat i a la part baixa es conserva un arc morisc de maó restaurat.
L'església va tenir un paper d' hospital d'aïllament quan les epidèmies de còlera van assolar la serra de Cadis al segle XIX.
Actualment l'església està tancada per al culte.
