Amorium fou una ciutat de Frígia fundada al segle i aC. Està situada al sud-est de Dorilea i al sud-oest d'Ancira
El 644 va patir el primer atac àrab; Abd-ar-Rahman ibn Khàlid hi va tornar el 666 i la va ocupar temporalment. El 669 fou ocupada altre cop durant l'expedició de Yazid I a Constantinoble, però reconquerida pel general romà d'Orient Andreas. Muhàmmad Ibn Marwan i Màslama ibn Abd-al-Màlik ibn Marwan van ocupar temporalment altre cop Amorium en una expedició el 708 i va derrotar davant la ciutat un exèrcit romà d'Orient. El 716 la van tornar a ocupar en l'expedició de Maslama contra Constantinoble, però en foren expulsats un o dos anys després per Lleó l'Isauri, que la va fortificar.
