També ha fet d'Atlanta una ciutat universalment coneguda, el fet que hagi estat immortalitzada en la llegendària novel·la Allò que el vent s'endugué, que després va donar origen a la pel·lícula del mateix nom; en aquesta obra Atlanta és l'escenari de la història d'amor entre Rhett Butler i Scarlett O'Hara en el marc històric de la Guerra de Secessió.
