Ohio és un dels 50 estats dels Estats Units, situat a la Regió dels Grans Llacs, i un dels seus principals centres industrials. Localitzat al Mig Oest dels Estats Units, té la indústria com la seva principal font d'ingressos. Altres fonts d'ingressos importants són les finances, la mineria del carbó, que va ajudar a fer d'Ohio una de les principals potències industrials del país, l'agricultura i el turisme.
La ràpida industrialització de l'estat va fer que diverses persones natives de l'estat destaquessin per les seves invencions i per la seva iniciativa. Thomas Edison va néixer a Ohio, i els germans Wright coneguts mundialment per haver estat els primers a volar en un avió també van créixer aquí. Un altre nadiu d'Ohio mundialment famós és Neil Armstrong, la primera persona a trepitjar la Lluna. Un altre Armstrong famós, el militar George Armstrong Custer, també va néixer a Ohio.
